On the surface, Globalization has been a boon to the average consumer, but when you look more deeply you find that no sector of the supply chain or even the economy has been unaffected by the changes of Globalization. Age of Globalization The modern era of Globalization was the culmination of three major changes to the world. First is the ease of production introduced by the industrial era. Production was centralized in factories and allowed for the economics of scale and specialization to take hold. Assembly line efficiency has been enhanced by supply chain and inventory tracking that allows exacting control over inventory. The assembly line today can utilize specialized workstations that allow for multiple products to be produced from the same line, reducing the retooling time. The Obsessive Nature Of The Love Felt By Othello, By...
Significantly, it is often perceived that ââ¬Ëobsessionââ¬â¢ refers to the empowerment one has over another person, although, amongst the three texts that I have studied it is noticeable that each text shares a fatal concept which accounts for the eventual tragedy and downfall of each set of lovers. Within this instance, obsession can form during the oppression of oneââ¬â¢s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea or image; for example, obsession is not necessarily created entirely by the fascination of sexual desires but through oneââ¬â¢s underlying motives. Each of the three texts seem to contain a fundamental principle which acts as a barrier for ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢ ââ¬â whether it be religiously, culturally or evolutionary. Firstly, it is difficult to identify the obsessive nature of the love felt by Othello, at the beginning of William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello, as his love towards Desdemona could be interpreted as ââ¬Ëagapeââ¬â¢ or certainly be seen as unconditional since the couplet persistently demonstrate a meaningful, more philosophical love towards one another. When used by Christians as a way to express their unconditional love of God, the term ââ¬Ëagape loveââ¬â¢ highlights the idea that love involves an element of self-sacrifice. Unlike our stereotypical understanding of the English word ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢, in the New Testament, ââ¬Ëagape loveââ¬â¢ is not used to refer to love romantically or sexually, instead it describes holding one in high regard, unequivocally. Multi-Agency working and safeguarding adults in care Essay Example
Multi-Agency working and safeguarding adults in care Essay There have been various cases recently in the news to where abuse has been either suspected of confirmed, for example the Panorama undercover programme at Winterbourne view whereby a range of physical, emotional, psychological abuse were identified. Abuse is defined as A violation of an individuals human and civil rights by any other person or persons. Vulnerable people are more open to abuse due to the individuals either not being able to stand up for themselves and are usually unwell, frail or/and confused. Different types of services try to combat this abuse through taking a multi-agency approach whereby the organisations all work together to discover ways of preventing the abuse from taking place in the beginning or resurrect the situation when abuse has been confirmed by providing a range of support through support planning and single assessment. Rather than the organisations working separately and providing separate services without any communication, multi-agency working encourages the services to work together through sharing information and a co-ordination of approach whereby the individuals needs are central to the process and that a person centred care approach is used. With multi-agency working there will be an array of professionals from different agencies where they will combine each of their individual skills and expertise to meet all of the individuals holistic needs. Not only this but it also requires a co-ordinating professional, to ensure that the organisations are working to satisfactory levels and that the needs of the individual are being met. Another benefit is that through multi-agency working, it is encouraged for the individual to have involvement in their health care services and allows them to feel more confident in talking about their worries, fears and potential abuse. Not only this but having equality through the relationships of the working encourage the individual to develop a higher self-esteem, self-confidence and the strength to stop accepting the abusive situations that may occur are the norm. It also ensures that there is an agreed approach to all of the organisations which are involved including the families and informal carers as well so that they are all aware of and can monitor the situation. Multi-agency working is also a way of enabling better information sharing and communication in terms of the staff, team meetings, communication via emails and written records such as in a care home whereby there would be a daily log which enables each staff coming on shift to be able aware of events that had taken place since they were last on duty. With the multi-agency approach they believe that the sharing of information and concern will conclude to early preventive action on abuse to take place and that patterns of behaviour can be identified of the service users when different members of staff come on to duty which could suggest that abuse is taken place by that worker. Forums are another way in which multi agency works (monthly meetings of residents in care services) where by the individuals are encouraged to share ideas and speak out giving the individuals more confidence to speak out and have a greater ownership and independence in terms of decisions that affect their lives such as being involved in interviewing new care staff. Not only this but it is also a chance for the service users to understand what procedures and guidelines that the care service has and their own rights emphasised to increase their expectations of the individual care that they receive. When the service users are clear on the guidelines they are more understanding on the what the behaviour of the staff should be, so not only are these guidelines are for the use of the staff but they are also for the service user to know what is acceptable behaviour from the staff and what is not. This is why the complaints procedure should be understood by all service users of the health facility and should be able to gain access to by all even if support is needed from an advocate from outside the organisation when making a complaint. So that there is a guarantee that all the staff members understand new procedures and policies, training needs to be implemented. Each new staff that works at the service also will require a formal induction whereby all of these policies and procedures are explained thoroughly, which will then underline their expected behaviour and practice in the service. Without training taking place, abuse is more likely to happen because of the poor practice and the workers lack of understanding of the policies and procedures. To prevent this from taking place and to ensure that the services are working with the best interest of the service user and following the rules and regulations that apply to each of them an independent regulator of health and social care services was established but shortly taken over by The Care Quality Commission previously help by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Commission in April 2009 (stretch et al, 2010). Procedures laid down by the organisation in conjunction to the multi-agency framework should be followed in terms of cases of alleged or suspected abuse and include six stages including alerting the worker who has the responsibility of dealing with these situations to then for them to refer the allegation to the police or social services who will feedback after investigation and an Adult Protection Case Conference will share results of the investigation with the vulnerable persons family who is the subject of abuse. An assessment is then carried out and a review of a Protection Plan to make sure that the individuals needs are met in the future which will then be monitored and recorded. If another member of staff identifies the abuse they have the chance to whistleblow which since the Public Interest Disclosure Act (1998) the staff have the right not to suffer detrimentally or be fired as a result of disclosing the information. In the past it has been known that staff have been aware of abuse taking place however have not reported it due to not wanting to be known as a grass to the service and their employees. To ensure that new employees of health and social care services are suitable for the job role of caring for vulnerable adults they will require a CRB check which since October 2009 they are required to obtain an Enhanced check rather than the normal standard check. This allows the employer to be aware of the convictions to which these individuals applying for the job may have and therefore will be able to pick which potential employer is actually right for the job role in terms of offering greater protection to the service users. This however may not always go to plan due to the loop holes which can still be identified in cases such as in the Winterbourne View residential care home whereby Panorama went undercover after a whistleblower who previously worked at the care service alerted higher authorities with the management at the care home and to the Quality Care Commission however his claims didnt get followed up however after the programme was shown the Safeguarding Adults Board were made aware and appropriate action was taken in line with established and procedures which should have been followed by the staff members previously to prevent the abuse. The abuse in which was taken place could have been prevented through thorough training of the staff and ensuring they were up to date with these policies and procedures. Not only this however but the recruitment of the staff should also have been more carefully picked with staff members with job history of being a tattooist with no previous healthcare qualifications. In conclusion if the policies, procedures and guidelines were followed correctly and appropriate training was also implemented then the abuse that took place at Winterbourne View would have never happened. If the communication between the different services was also improved through a multi-agency working approach then the abuse could have been stopped a period of time before the Panorama programme.

Work Essay
Work Essay Work Essay English Essay Atticus Finch "To Kill a Mocking Bird" was set back in the mid 1900's, racism was high and discrimination of the black was still running. The text "To Kill a Mockingbird", Atticus challenges the case of Tom Robinson for rape and abuse of Mayella Ewell, showing the protection of the of Tom Robinson skin colour and showing the defence of African American People . Atticus Finch is a man with strong values and who does the right thing. This is shown when he defends Tom Robinson despite the social stigma of representing a black man. He teaches Scout and Jem to be accepting of others, and refuse to fight back against Bob Ewell. Tom Robinson was falsely accused of rape & abuse of Mayella Ewell and her father Bob. Atticus is one of the few people in the town who is willing to defend Tom Robinsons case, but there are also others that is on his side. Atticus show a trusting attitude, which he is the most courageous character I know, because of his defence of Tom Robinson. Everything Atticus is doing for Tom Robinson is a step to change the life of the Maycombs town and toward the African American people, not by the charge of skin colour but also fair and equal rights to the community, and give same respect. Atticus is a character who display various form of courage, also show most courageous attitude out of all character. He refuse to give up the fight no matter what circumstances or losses will do to his life (himself) or his family. Atticus show a lot of courage and behaviour in many instances throughout the story, not by fighting or killing, but by standing up and believe d in a civilized way. He wants to b e a good example for his kids and instil in them a strong sense of moral values. Atticus Finch knew that he was not going to win and he WILL lose this case. No matter how much evidence that he had, the jury will still charge him because of his skin colour, but it did not mean that it will stop him from giving Tom the strongest defence he possibly can. Importantly, Atticus doesn't put so much effort into Tom's case because he's an African American, but because of his innocence. Atticus feels that the justice system is colour blind, and he defends Tom as an innocence man but not a man of colour. As a lawyer, Atticus is again an ideal character as fair and equal and is the best man at his job. The whole fact that he took Tom Robinsonââ¬â¢s case and listened to his conscience, when he knew he would lose, showed what sort of character Harper Lee wanted Atticus to be. He knew that the justice system at that time was prejudiced and immoral and that it was certain that Tom Robinson would be found guilty. Atticus remains calm when provoked directly. For example, looking at how he handles Bob Ewell's challenge: ââ¬Å"Too proud to fight?â⬠ââ¬Å"No,â⬠says Atticus, ââ¬Å"too oldâ⬠. This suggests that it may seem to us at first thought that Atticus is no longer strong and fit enough to fight; but also it might mean that fighting is not something that adults should do, which implies that Bob has not grown up. As a father, Atticus is truthful, fair and loyal his children, Scout and Jem. He acts as both a father and a teacher to them, educating them in the social and moral expectations of their society. He treats them with respect and wants them to understand why things happen in the community, what is wrong with society and how to try and change them and improve themselves at the same time. Atticus didnââ¬â¢t believe in spoiling his children or shouting at them but instead he believed respect for each other. Honesty and self respect

Elegant Variation
Elegant Variation Elegant Variation Elegant Variation By Michael I learned about elegant variation from my high school English teacher, but even she taught about it with a slightly-skeptical smile. Its a rule that many writers feel bound to follow when they dont need to. According to this so-called rule, a writer should never use the same word twice in a paragraph. Newscasters follow elegant variation when they say, The Dow-Jones Industrial Average rose more than 300 points yesterday. It was the blue-chip indicators fourth straight gain. Or Chinas Sichuan province experienced another earthquake yesterday afternoon, the second in three months. The temblor measured 6.1 on the Richter scale. Admittedly, a news story might sound a bit childish if it said, The Dow-Jones gained 300 points yesterday. It was the fourth straight gain for the Dow-Jones. Too much repetition reads like a toddlers picture book. But more important than not repeating a word is not using the wrong word. I experienced several earthquakes when I lived in California, and not once did I hear anybody say, Did you feel that temblor last night? I remember one local radio newscaster who spent about twenty minutes saying basically, We had a big earthquake this morning, and we dont know anything else about it, but I have to keep talking about it because this is an all-news station and its our top story. But I dont think he ever used the word temblor. In fact, Ive never heard that word at all, except from radio announcers trying to avoid saying earthquake. Instead of asking What other word can I use the next time?, we should be asking, What better word can I add the next time?. In my first example, using the term blue-chip indicator in parallel to Dow-Jones Industrial Average defines the Dow-Jones Industrial Average as a performance indicator for blue-chip stocks. It adds to the meaning of the sentence, instead of simply providing variation. Another problem with elegant variation is that it can push your writing out of the readability zone. If youre trying to be elegant, youre probably trying to be formal. If youre trying to be formal, youre probably going to use big words that fewer readers understand (porcine instead of piggish). If youre straining to find a synonym for the right word, you may end up doing worse than finding the wrong word. You may end up with finding a word that even you dont understand. Repetition is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes once you find a good thing, the best course is to stick with it. My previous paragraph was stronger because of its repetition. Repetition emphasizes parallelism, which makes sentences and paragraphs more understandable. Elegance is not necessarily a good thing. When the term elegant variation was coined by Henry Watson Fowler in the 1920s, it implied precious writing overly dainty and falsely sophisticated. When I was a magazine writer, I was often faced with the desire to find a more elegant word. The Sharchops dwell in the mountains of Bhutan The Sharchops reside The Sharchops are situated near The Sharchops homeland is nestled within I decided that if I couldnt find a better way to say, The Sharchops live in eastern Bhutan, I could always say, The Sharchops live in eastern Bhutan.
